As their name suggests, they are cultivated in New Zealand and not as easily available as black mussels. Many other pet retailers sell black mussels under the name Green Lipped Mussels. These as they are cheaper sourced mainly from Chile. Naughty! You can tell these mussels as they're much smaller and much more orange in colour.

Nutritional Benefits of NZ Green Lipped Mussels for Dogs
Green Lipped Mussel’s nutrition profile is quite impressive; they contain antioxidants, omega-3-fatty acids, zinc, iron, and selenium. Green Lipped Mussels are full of Omega-3 fatty acids, including the fatty acids EPA and DHA. Omega-3s reduce the level of inflammation associated with diseases such as arthritis. This compound can also be found in fish oils but the benefit of the Green Lipped Mussels is they also contain compounds including glucosamine, chondroitin, zinc, and magnesium, which fight joint inflammation and pain.

Dosage For Green Lipped Mussels
We recommend starting 1 x GLM per 10kg of your dog's body weight. Our dog Bandit has suffered from hip dysplasia since he was 6 months old. Every day we treat him with 3-4 mussels per day (he is 34kg) and not only has his hip movement dramatically improved, but his overall energy levels are back to normal and his coat is shiny and thick.
